These are weird times! So many things are happening that are unfamiliar to us! For instance, who of us ever expected to live through a pandemic which turned everything upside down? Unfortunately, the events of the world have caused an unpleasant epidemic of snarkiness! Many people seem to be frightened, short tempered, frustrated, and sometimes downright rude. So how do we keep ourselves in good temper when we encounter unkindness? Here are some tips:

  • Don’t give in to fear! That is what terrorists and hate mongers want you to do!
  • Treat others as if they may have something to teach you, because maybe they do.
  • Understand that kindness isn’t about pleasing anyone and winning accolades; it comes from a genuine desire to help others and improve a negative situation.
  • Remember that encouraging someone else does not diminish your accomplishments.
  • If someone’s lifestyle or beliefs are not like yours, understand that you don’t need to be threatened by the differences.
  • When you make kindness a habit, your outlook on life begins to change because you get back what you send out!
  • Even if you don’t feel like an especially kind person, act like one. Fake it ‘til you make it!
  • Be careful and thoughtful about what you write on social media sites.

Remember that kindness breeds kindness and kindness gives rise to hope! Emily Dickinson wrote:

Hope is the thing with feathers

That perches in the soul

And sings the tune without the words

And never stops at all.”

If hope is the thing with feathers, certainly kindness must have wings!
